What Do They Do With All of That Poo? by Jane Kurtz (Informational Book)
Attractive Design/Read the Pictures
The
illustrator, Allison Black provides vivid pictures that serve as an effective narration that could tell the information without the words. As the book describes the different types of "poo," the illustrations support these descriptions accurately.
Little-Known Facts
According to the textbook, Children's Literature, Briefly, "details in nonfiction make the difference between showing and telling, just as they do in fiction, but in nonfiction, that difference often accounts for a reader becoming interested in a new subject or ignoring it" (Young & Bryan, 2020). The details presented in the text presents facts that are not very commonly known, making it an interesting and unique read. The information presented about the animals' "poo" also teaches the reader about the eating habits and way of life of the animals in general.
Informational Picture Books
The
same textbook also asserts that informational picture books "present accurate and appealing content aimed at awakening an interest in the reader" (Young &
Bryan, 2020). Not only does the text have an attention-grabbing title, but it provides a healthy mixture of information with slight humor. This is a good mix to spark curiosity and interest in young readers.
